Spatial Figure I (1968), a sculpture by Estonian artist Edgar Viies is at the heart of the film 2060. The idea of constant and never-ending movement becomes emphasised due to the fact that the Möbius strip is embedded into the shape of the sculpture and the film is projected from a material that can be seen endlessly coursing through the projector. The Cold War-period in which Viies made his piece is often marked by the utopian potential of Modernist technological progress that would've resulted in a world harmoniously co-habited by people and the technology that they've created. However, the film's mechanical neutrality and the seeming lack of any human presence suggests a more dystopic outcome.
