Published on the occasion of Paul Kuimet’s solo exhibition Perpendicular at the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (EKKM), 12.11.–11.12.2016. The show centred on the irreversible effects that time has on objects, buildings and institutions. The exhibition comprised of Kuimet’s recent works tied together by a site-specific installational environment.
The publication gives a contextual overview of the artist’s practice. It contains textual contributions by critic and curator Chris Sharp and literary theoretician Jaak Tomberg. The text in English and Estonian is set side by side, with occasional visual references to the artist’s works. The pages of the publication are black with white text, the images are printed using black and Pantone silver. The exterior of the publication features two of Kuimet’s works – stills from his 16 mm film Exposure on the front cover and two images from the photographic installation Grid Study on the back. A visual play of reflecting lights and shadows becomes apparent on the silvery, embossed details of the cover visuals, which further connect to the themes of spatiality, time and the movement of light.
